Shock As Hon Mathias Mpuuga Accuses Both NUP & NRM Of Secretly Planning For His Downfall & Total Collapse

Shock and controversy have rocked Uganda’s political scene after Democratic Front (DF) leader, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, made explosive claims accusing both the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) of secretly working together to destroy his political career and collapse his party.

Speaking shortly after the release of the general election results, Mpuuga claimed that powerful forces from both sides of the political divide plotted against him and his party. His statements have surprised many Ugandans, especially because NRM and NUP are known as bitter political rivals.

Mpuuga made the remarks as he reacted to the devastating performance of the Democratic Front in the recently concluded elections. The party failed to win even a single parliamentary seat nationwide, marking one of the most dramatic political defeats in recent years.

The loss hit the party’s top leadership hard. Mpuuga himself lost his race, alongside the party’s Secretary General Micheal Mabikke and several other senior officials. For a party that had promised to shake the political landscape, the outcome was humiliating.

When DF was launched, its leaders spoke with great confidence and ambition. They promised a fresh political approach and claimed they would become a strong third force capable of challenging both NRM and NUP.

In a bold move before the elections, Democratic Front chose not to front a presidential candidate. Party leaders said their strategy was to focus entirely on winning parliamentary seats and building influence from the legislature.

DF also opened its doors to several politicians who had been denied tickets by NUP. In a show of confidence and financial muscle, the party even paid nomination fees for many of its candidates, believing this would attract strong support.

However, the strategy failed badly. Instead of delivering victories, it resulted in a complete wipeout, leaving the party without any representation in Parliament.

Now, Mpuuga insists that the defeat was not natural. According to him, NRM and NUP quietly worked together to ensure DF candidates lost across the country.

“I saw people connive to make our candidates lose,” Mpuuga told the media. “Mostly NRM and NUP. They had a friendly connection during these elections.”

His words have ignited heated debate, with many Ugandans struggling to understand how two sworn political enemies could allegedly cooperate behind closed doors.

Some political observers argue that such cooperation, while shocking, is not impossible in Uganda’s complex political environment. Others, however, strongly disagree and say Mpuuga is simply looking for excuses.

Critics of Democratic Front say the party failed to clearly explain its ideology and purpose to voters. They argue that Ugandans were not convinced that DF offered a meaningful alternative to existing political parties.

Others point out that refusing to field a presidential candidate may have weakened the party’s visibility and national appeal, making it harder for parliamentary candidates to gain momentum.

On social media, reactions have been mixed. Some sympathizers believe Mpuuga’s claims deserve serious investigation, while others accuse him of refusing to accept political reality.

The allegations have also raised questions about trust within the opposition. If true, the claims could deepen divisions and suspicion among parties that claim to be fighting for democratic change.

For Democratic Front, the future now looks uncertain. With zero seats, low morale, and growing internal pressure, the party faces an uphill task to remain politically relevant.

There are also questions about Mpuuga’s personal political standing. Some analysts say this defeat, combined with his controversial claims, could permanently damage his credibility.

Others believe Mpuuga still has a chance to rebuild if he reflects, reorganizes, and reconnects with voters instead of blaming external forces.

As things stand, no official response has been issued by either NRM or NUP regarding Mpuuga’s allegations. Both parties have continued with post-election activities without addressing the claims directly.

What remains clear is that the 2026 elections have left deep political wounds. For Mathias Mpuuga and the Democratic Front, this moment could either mark the end of a bold experiment or the painful beginning of a long political recovery.
