Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has made another unusual and playful reference to National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, using the nickname “Kabobina” in a social media post.
In the message, Muhoozi said that he misses Bobi Wine and suggested that he could send him flowers in the United States in an attempt to seek forgiveness.
“The woman…Kabobina of course. I miss him. I will send Kabobina flowers in America, maybe he’ll forgive me. I have stopped beating women Kabobina,” Muhoozi posted on Twitter.
The post quickly attracted attention because of the unusual language used by the Chief of Defence Forces when referring to one of Uganda’s most prominent opposition politicians.
Muhoozi’s reference to “Kabobina” was directed at Bobi Wine, who has been one of his frequent subjects in political and social media comments.
The message appeared to combine humour, personal remarks and political rivalry, making it difficult to separate the playful tone from the broader disagreements that have existed between the two figures.
Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, rose from a successful music career to become a major political figure in Uganda.
He entered Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Kyadondo County East before later becoming the leader of the National Unity Platform and one of the country’s leading opposition voices.
His political activities have brought him into frequent disagreements with the government and ruling establishment, while his supporters have continued to portray him as an important voice for political change.
Muhoozi, meanwhile, has increasingly used social media to communicate his political views, comment on national issues and respond to individuals across Uganda’s political landscape.
His latest message directed at Bobi Wine was considerably lighter in tone than some of his previous statements concerning the opposition leader.
The mention of sending flowers to Bobi Wine in America appeared to be a symbolic gesture, with Muhoozi suggesting that it might help the two reconcile or lead to forgiveness.
Muhoozi also referred to himself as having “stopped beating women,” using the phrase while addressing Bobi Wine as “Kabobina.”
The wording has generated curiosity because of the way the General repeatedly uses humorous or unconventional language when discussing political personalities.
The relationship between the ruling establishment and Bobi Wine has for years been marked by political disagreements, particularly over elections, security, freedom of assembly and the treatment of opposition supporters.
Bobi Wine has repeatedly criticised the government and accused security agencies of restricting opposition activities, allegations that government officials have disputed.
Muhoozi’s latest post therefore comes against a much larger background of political rivalry and public exchanges involving him and opposition figures.
Despite the political differences, the General’s decision to say that he misses Bobi Wine and might send him flowers gives the latest exchange a different tone from the more confrontational political statements often associated with their camps.
The post also demonstrates how social media has become an important platform for Uganda’s political figures to communicate directly with the public, sometimes using humour, nicknames and informal language.
Whether Bobi Wine will respond to Muhoozi’s message remains to be seen, but the reference to “Kabobina” has already added another unusual episode to their long-running public exchanges.
For now, Muhoozi’s message has left Ugandans discussing what appears to be a mixture of humour, political rivalry and an invitation for forgiveness directed at Bobi Wine.
