Whenever I met someone new, the relationship would usually start well. We would spend time together, discuss our future and even make plans for life ahead. Some men went as far as introducing me to their friends and relatives, which made me believe that marriage was finally within reach.
Sadly, the same painful experience continued happening. After spending months or even years together, the men would gradually change.
Some started avoiding my calls and messages, while others eventually told me directly that they no longer wanted to continue with the relationship.
Every breakup affected me deeply. I constantly questioned myself and wondered why the men I loved always seemed to leave before we could get married. At times, I asked myself whether I was doing something wrong or whether I was simply unfortunate when it came to relationships.
As the years went by, my confidence also started fading. Watching friends get married and begin their own families made me feel as though I was being left behind. Whenever people asked me when I would finally settle down, I often found it difficult to respond because I did not know what the future held for my love life.
I tried changing my approach to relationships by giving the men I dated more time and remaining patient with them. I also tried to understand their feelings, respect their needs and avoid unnecessary arguments. Even with these efforts, however, my relationships still ended before reaching the stage of marriage.
At one point, I nearly decided to give up on relationships altogether. I became afraid that I would continue meeting men, falling in love and eventually watching them walk away before marriage.
Deep down, all I wanted was a man who was genuinely serious about me and would remain committed when discussions about settling down began.
