On Thursday at the Green light Stadium in Onduparaka, a scintillating football match is anticipated that will bring to an end the ongoing Ayivu West constituency Christmas Cup.

“We shall have our Christmas at Onduparaka and all are welcome to witness this match,” Bernard Atiku, a candidate in the Ayivu West Constituency parliamentary race has said.

On Tuesday December 23, 2025, the Semifinals are scheduled to be played at Ruva primary school grounds.

This is after the officials decided to give a day for the winners of the quarterfinals to prepare.

Yivu parish team from Pajulu faces Olevu ward team of Ayivuni while Nyiovurra of Adumi will tussle Adalafu of Pajulu.

In total, 18 teams participated in the tournament that was staged at four playing grounds in the former sub counties of Pajulu, Adumi and Ayivuni that form the Ayivu West constituency.

Kelvin Akua, one of the organizers said there were two groups formed for Pajulu because there were nine wards in that defunct sub county. Adumi and Ayivuni had four wards each.

The tournament was organized to keep the young folks busy during the holidays and ensure that they do not wonder around in the course of festivities.

“When youths are idle, they engage in dubious activities like drug abuse, disco dances, even theft and many of them become unruly,” explained kelvin.

“We want them to occupy them with sports so that they keep physically fit and are spared from idleness,” he added.

The winning team will walk away with one million shillings Courtesy of Bernard Atiku, the former Member of Parliament.

The monetary appreciation is in addition to a cup, a package of playing uniforms and a football. The runner-up will get sh500,000 plus playing uniforms and football while the third placed team will receive sh250,000 plus football.

Atiku said from next year, the matches will be taken down to village levels and spread throughout the year to occupy all the holidays’ in-between the academic terms.

“This is standard football competition and there is a lot of raw talent among these people. Next year we shall invite the match scouts from teams participating in the Big league and the Uganda premier league to watch the matches,” he said.
