Sad News!! Ugandan Woman Member Of Parliament Dies 2 Days After Being Defeated In The Recently Concluded Elections

Uganda is in mourning following the sudden death of Ngora District Woman Member of Parliament, Stella Apolot Isodo, who passed away at Kampala Hospital just two days after losing her parliamentary seat in the recently concluded 2026 general elections. Her death has shocked the country and left many people heartbroken, especially coming at such a sensitive and emotional time.

Stella Apolot Isodo was a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and had served her people with dedication and commitment. For years, she was known as a strong voice for Ngora District and the wider Teso sub-region. Her passing has created a deep sense of loss not only within her party but also across Uganda’s political landscape.

According to confirmed reports, Isodo died on Saturday while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Kampala Hospital. Her death was announced by fellow legislator Juliet Achayo Lodou, the Ngora County Member of Parliament, who described the news as painful and difficult to accept.

The late lawmaker had been battling illness for some time. Despite her health challenges, she remained determined to continue serving her constituents. Her final election campaign was conducted under very difficult circumstances, as she was too ill to move freely and address voters in person.

FDC President Patrick Amuriat revealed that Isodo had been flown abroad last year for specialized medical treatment. She reportedly underwent a successful surgery and returned to Uganda with hope that her health would improve enough for her to resume active political work.

However, as the campaign season approached, her condition did not allow her to fully participate. Instead, her campaign team and agents took on the responsibility of speaking to voters on her behalf, carrying her message and vision across Ngora District.

In the election results, Josephine Pedun of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) was declared the winner with 17,010 votes. Stella Apolot Isodo came second with 11,334 votes. The loss was a heavy blow to her supporters, many of whom believed she would have retained her seat if she had been healthy.

Patrick Amuriat openly stated that Isodo’s illness played a major role in her defeat. He said she was a strong and popular leader who had deep support on the ground, and that her absence during the campaign greatly affected the outcome.

Beyond elections, Isodo was known for her work in Parliament. She served as the spokesperson for the Teso Parliamentary Group, where she played a key role in uniting leaders from different political parties to speak with one voice on issues affecting the region.

Colleagues from across the political divide have described her as approachable, respectful, and hardworking. She was admired for maintaining good relationships even with those who disagreed with her politically, a quality that earned her respect nationwide.

Her death comes at an especially painful moment for her family. According to Soroti City Speaker Juliet Agonyo, Isodo’s stepbrother was scheduled to be buried on Sunday, January 18. The family now has to prepare for another burial almost at the same time, deepening their grief.

Born on October 25, 1974, Stella Apolot Isodo was 51 years old at the time of her death. Many describe her as someone whose life was dedicated to public service, community development, and advocating for women and vulnerable groups.

In Ngora District, residents are struggling to come to terms with the loss. Many remember her as a leader who listened to ordinary people and spoke boldly about their problems in Parliament.

Her death has also sparked conversations about the pressure politicians face when dealing with serious illness while still trying to meet public expectations. Some have called for more compassion and understanding toward leaders facing health challenges.

As news of her passing spread, messages of condolence poured in from fellow lawmakers, political parties, civil society groups, and ordinary Ugandans. Social media platforms quickly filled with tributes celebrating her life and service.

While funeral arrangements had not yet been announced by the time of reporting, it is expected that her burial will draw large crowds from Ngora, Teso, and beyond, as people come together to honor her memory.

Stella Apolot Isodo’s journey in politics was marked by resilience, courage, and commitment. Even in sickness, she did not give up on her dream of serving her people, a fact that continues to inspire many.

Her passing is a reminder of how fragile life can be, regardless of status or position. It also highlights the emotional toll that elections and public service can take on individuals and families.

As Uganda mourns her death, many will remember Stella Apolot Isodo not for how her political journey ended, but for the years she spent standing up for her constituents and representing Ngora District with pride.

In the end, her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the voices she amplified, and the example she set as a determined woman leader in Ugandan politics.
