The Arua central Division Member of Parliament, Jackson Atima has called for peaceful elections ahead of the general elections beginning on January 15, 2026.

Atima who is also the National Resistance Movement Party flag bearer has advised other contestants to restrain their agents as the campaigns enter the final week.

He made the comments during a rally in Kenya Ward on Thursday after members of his own campaign taskforce reportedly received threats of violence from camps opposed to him.

Said to be particularly targeted is Wadri Mayi, a prolific mobiliser who has been snatching supporters of rival candidates with ease to join Atima’s camp.

The MP said people who are seeking to be an MP to represent the cosmopolitan City should show to the world that they are politically mature and ready to unite the people.

Accordingly, he outlined a raft of key points that he said will form his priorities for the people in the next five years.

Most of the issues are balances carried forward because as Atima puts it, he was cut short by time.

Atima expressed happiness over the withdrawal of challengers to the Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo that has left her waiting for the next Parliamentary term to begin.

He said he is confident that Alupo will retain her Vice Presidency position and that guarantees that he and the Vice president will work together to fulfil pledges to the Moslem constituents to complete construction of a mosque in Arua.

Atima informed the people that the rehabilitation of the Nebbi-Arua road has begun and it is his duty to continue monitoring to ensure work well done.

To these, Atima added pledge to support savings and loan groups since he will not have the burden of buying a community bus again.

He drew a rousing ululations from the boisterous crowd when he disclosed that President Yoweri Museveni has already directed the government to acquire the lands for Lobidra, Owino and a market for vending fish from Juba, South Sudan.

Atima said the minister for the local government is engaging the landlords to negotiate the costs and after acquisition, the government will construct modern storied markets for the people where priority of occupancy will be given to the vendors who right now draw their livelihood from those markets.
