Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu has reaffirmed his dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable learners following a visit to Yoweri Museveni Primary School in Namatala, Mbale District, where he met ten pupils supported through the Biara Foundation Scholarship Program.
The children, all orphaned by the devastating Bulambuli landslides, continue to carry the emotional and economic burden of losing their parents, yet remain determined to pursue education as a path toward rebuilding their futures.
During the visit, Hon. Wepukhulu held consultations with school administrators and teaching staff, who provided updates on the pupils’ academic progress and overall wellbeing since joining the scholarship program.
School leaders commended the initiative for keeping the children in school at a time when many were at risk of dropping out, describing it as a timely intervention that has restored stability to their education.
Despite this progress, the administration highlighted ongoing challenges affecting the learners, including lack of uniforms, insufficient scholastic materials, and inconsistent access to meals, all of which continue to impact their day-to-day learning experience.
Hon. Wepukhulu acknowledged these concerns and noted that while the foundation initially prioritized tuition support, there is now a renewed effort to expand assistance to cover essential needs that directly influence the children’s comfort and academic performance.
He emphasized that supporting education must address the whole child, not only school fees, adding that dignity and equal opportunity are essential components of meaningful learning for children who have already endured severe loss.
The visit concluded with appreciation from pupils and teachers, who described the engagement as a powerful encouragement and a reminder that their struggles have not been forgotten, as hope continues to grow for a more secure educational future.
