My name is Sarah, and I come from Kasese in Western Uganda. I never imagined that the two people I held closest to my heart would one day cause me so much pain. My husband was the man I had chosen to spend my life with, while my mother was the person I believed would always love, protect and guide me through difficult times.
For years, I devoted myself to keeping my marriage happy and peaceful. I supported my husband whenever he faced challenges, shared my hopes and future plans with him, and believed we were creating a home built on love, trust, honesty and respect for one another.
Slowly, however, I began noticing unusual changes in my husband’s behaviour. He became secretive whenever his phone rang or he received messages, and whenever I tried to ask him about it, he would avoid giving me a clear answer and quickly introduce another topic.

What made the situation even more disturbing was the growing closeness between my husband and my mother. They seemed to be communicating more frequently, and there were times when the way they interacted with each other left me feeling uncomfortable.
On several occasions, I noticed that their conversations would suddenly end whenever I entered a room unexpectedly. Still, I tried to ignore these warning signs because the idea that my own mother could betray me was too painful for me to imagine.
“I began questioning my own judgement and wondering whether I was simply imagining things. Whenever I tried to raise my concerns, my husband accused me of looking for problems, while my mother continued behaving as though nothing unusual was happening. I became emotionally confused because I no longer knew whom I could trust.”
As time went on, my suspicions continued to grow, and pretending that everything was normal became increasingly difficult. I desperately wanted to discover the truth, yet I feared the consequences of what I might uncover. The possibility of my husband cheating on me was painful enough, but the thought that my own mother might also be involved made the situation even more heartbreaking.
